I have a newbie question… how does the scoring work on the ranking table? I think I’ve worked out that you start with 1000 & get 12 points for a win and lose 12 for a loss. Are draws 6 pts each? Is there a time period the leaderboard is calculated over? Are there points for multiplayer? Or is all an algorithmic fantasy in the mind of Fetch? Doesn’t matter just puzzling over it and my OCD is itching

So many questions - I'll have a go in order I have a newbie question… how does the scoring work on the ranking table? I think I’ve worked out that you start with 1000 & get 12 points for a win and lose 12 for a loss. More or less right - it's +/- 12 if the two players are closely matched but there can be variation depending on the difference in ranking. In simple terms, if a Higher ranked player beats a lower ranked one, they score fewer points than vice versa. I don't know precisely how the algorithm works but apparently it's based on something called the ELO system used in chess. Are draws 6 pts each? Don't think so (but happy to be corrected) - every game is a nil sum so I believe a draw earns zero for both players Is there a time period the leaderboard is calculated over? It's a lifetime total Are there points for multiplayer? No - that's a separate game/minefield all of its own Or is all an algorithmic fantasy in the mind of Fetch? Of course it is Hope that helps |

CumbriAndy is right. For more details on the scoring formula, Daddy Shark created a spreadsheet. I think it will show under the pinned posts for this thread. Also he has a blog with a lot of WSW links in it.

My winter running routes don’t seem to be that conducive to playing this game. Am not really much opposition! Will give it another week and then maybe drop out again. Hello, Exmoor Runner, btw. 👋 |

I am lucky in that most of my grid is OK. There are a few sections that I wouldnt (or couldnt) run in dark but would target there at the weekend if required.
