No speculation needed CC2, Fetch and Wallman, just calculation. The effect of winning or losing against a challenger can be predicted using my little spreadsheet here where you enter in their current ranking points: docs.google.com The lower-ranked player stands to win big if they win, but won't lose much if it doesn't work out. Conversely, a higher ranked player won't win much by winning, but stands to lose a lot if they lose. (Have a look at most pinned posts from me and others for more information about ranking points than you could possibly want.) |

You've broken my brain Daddy Shark. I am a linguist. Numbers are a language I do not speak though! How does the scoring actually work? I don't see it in the guide. I sort of figured out you get 12 points for a win but then some people have scores that aren't 1000 + a multiple of 12. Also, why start on 1000 and not 0? |

CC2, forget chess and think of the FA cup: Ranking points work similarly to the credit/shame we give football teams following mismatched FA cup ties: If Man City beat Basingstoke nobody gives them much credit and, at the same time, Basingstoke, don't feel much shame. Conversely, if Carlisle Utd beat Manchester United they get loads of credit, and simultaneously Manchester United can't show their faces in public for a while. |
