Does anyone else swim in an Endless pool, and if so how do you log it for WSW? I swim against a current without moving, so it doesn’t generate any useful stats for any tracking apps (which all rely on either turning laps to estimate Pool distance or GPS for open water). I just end up with a static dot with time and no distance. I’ve seen something suggesting activities should be a mile (?) long to count for WSW, so my 30mins or whatever of swimming like mad and going nowhere doesn’t help much!

That comment about a mile long swim counting for WSW was not a serious one. Obviously flapping your arms around whilst laying in a children's paddling pool in the garden doesn't count (just in case NDWDave is reading) - but any length 'proper' swim should count. My next (first) swimming badge is for 10metres.

Swimming in an endless pool is as helpful as running on a treadmill when it comes to WSW. You'll get one square, whether you go 10m or 26 miles. In terms of logging the distance though don't you know how fast the current is - and therefore can calculate the distance based on that and the time you've been swimming. Or is that to simplistic?

Thanks VJ my pool is quite an old one so it doesn’t give me a speed (I think the newer ones do) so it would just be a guess. Doesn’t change the training benefit, just no data!

I agree with VJ: anything that is remotely a proper swim should count. But you are only going to get one square of course.

Btw I didn't know what an "Endless pool" was until now, thanks!

How about putting a rubber duck at one end of the pool and timing how long it takes to get to the other and work out the speed from that?

It is bad when your living room reminds you of WSW...
