Doctor K
I'll ask next time but it usually pours out pretty quickly. I have investigated being a plasma donor but not enough on the platelet count so stuck with blood

I've never been asked about cuts and bruises, though I've been advised not to go mountaineering for the rest of the day after a donation

Last time I went, 5 years ago, they refused to take me, telling me to go home and eat steak and drink red wine. I've been on a piss up ever since.

Can you imagine hanging off a hand-hold with an arm bereft of blood V'rap?! eL Bee said earlier he'd given platelets - how hard or otherwise is it? I'll go read back to see if he answered already. I believe it takes longer, but you can give more often? Anyhoo, think I'll look into it.
So yer all gushers then? How do I get to 9? I'll try gym and shower first. Or dilute my blood, or soemthing. :-)G

platelets takes about 90 mins - and you give monthly or so.

doesnt hurt - never run / cycled after - had bad experience cycling after full blood donation so been wary.
basically takes blood out of arm - passes it through machine to remove platelets and then pumps it back into you, repeating until they've got a bag of platelets. You hooked up to machine throughout, sat in a comfy recliner - take a book to read! Its a bit weird feeling when blood is pumped in and you can get a wee reaction to it but its never been a problem.
If you decide to go along you get a very thorough briefing and assesment before first time. fmail me if want further details - from a donor view not an expert.

I'm probably about a 2 or a 3 but will check next time (should be this month - must look that up). But what's the rush? I like to use the quiet time to think and consider. My haemoglobin count is usually around 13 though if it's competitive we're after And I have nice low blood pressure. I'm just a little oasis of calm really.

Lol, Boab.
Thanks, Gooner and V'rap. Makes sense - but surely not for very minor cuts? V'rap, the time they took to ask me questions and tell me my iron levels were too low last time was about double the time it took my friend to actually go through all of this *and* donate - she was getting worried I had died or something.
