We have no sparrows, ER. Pretty much everything else from wrens to blue and long-tailed tits, blackbirds etc up to wood pigeons, but no sparrows. They are numerous in gardens less than a quarter of a mile further downhill, closer into town. We wonder if there's a warmth factor involved which keeps them in a slightly more urban environment?

(Sparrows, plenty here. They love our hedges. Some of them, and other birds, have taken to just sauntering past the greenhouse whilst I am in it.)

We have loads of sparrows - I was always puzzled by reports of their numbers decreasing.

We have big flocks of sparrows around the houses here, probably because a lot of the old folk have bird-buffets in their gardens. A few hundred metres out of town and it's all tiny birds.

Disappeared from lots of rural and semi-rural areas over the last 30 years, I believe because of the reduction in hedgerows

My partner's son visited at lunchtime with our grand-daughters so we could have a socially-distanced chat (they brought their own lunch, drinks etc. and we stayed at least 2 metres apart at all times so we felt safe enough to do so)

we've also always had sparrows 0.4 miles away (guess who runs with a Garmin), but as the crow flies it will be a bit less than that.
