Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch
or for an ad-free Fetcheveryone experience!

Kids going into the sauna in football kit including muddy boots.

(I got them to take their footwear off but to say more would probably invite the attention of the authorities.)

Having to wear clothing in the sauna.

Is anyone else getting a lot of this

For my birthday this year I want donations to xxxxx

Piss off, if I actually know you well enough to be getting you a gift then I want to get something for you.

If you are just using Facebook as a platform to look all thoughtful you can piss off as well.

I donate to charity, a few that matter to me and I donate at random when I feel the need.

Argh

I am, Gobi.

Facebook repeatedly invited me to use my most recent birthday to raise money for charity, but didn't disclose that it would spam the news feeds of all my contacts for a week or so before my birthday and send them email notifications pestering them to donate. I can see how it might look like a tempting and benign way of supporting a cause close to your heart, but my first thought was, "What does Facebook get out of this and what have I said to give them the idea that I might buy into it?"

The problem is that those who "raise" money for charity get lots of credit while those who give (rightly) don't. It's the same as sponsorship, or when the London Marathon says "it" has raised so much money over the years. These people/organisations are getting themselves a good name at the cost of those who donate.

Which isn't to say that money hasn't gone to charity that otherwise wouldn't have.

I wonder if people who have gone, "Oh, that's a nice idea!" and signed up to the Facebook thing realised that for every person who donates a couple of quid, several will be irritated enough to snooze or block them.
