Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I've run the VMLM four times but I'm getting more and more fed up with it. I haven't watched any coverage this year and only looked up the elite men's and women's results on the internet. My reasons:

1. OK it's flat but not as scenic as the BBC make it out to be. Put cameras in Greenwich Park, Cutty Sark, Tower Bridge, etc. and it looks spectacular. Funny that Charlton High Street, Rotherhithe, Bermondsey, Isle of Dogs and Limehouse aren't given the same attention.
2. Z-list 'celebrities' trying to hog the limelight when there are thousands of others who are doing the same thing.
3. The course is heavily congested, particularly for those in the second half of the field. When I last took part, people were walking within a mile of the start, everything ground to a halt just before Cutty Sark and you simply couldn't overtake until well into the second half of the race.
4. Constant banging of drums and dimwits who think it's cool to keep shouting "oggy, oggy, oggy."
5. Non-runners and marathon novices who treat the VMLM as the only marathon in the UK.

Well done if you did take part but I didn't miss not being there today or any of the past few years. Rant over [exhales deeply].

People who aren't aware of the word 'because':

Cycling parents that ensure their little cycling loved ones wear helmets but CBA to do the same. What example does that set?
