Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

MM - it's the feeling that counts! :)

Foxy, I used to follow each runner's progress, and marvel that they weren't falling like flies!

There’s a few, but the most meaningful to me finishing my first race after chemo with my partner who gamely signed up for a half to support me in my come back despite hating running 😂 we sprinted it down the finishing straight together with with “eye of the tiger” blaring out from the speakers and the announcer cheering us on, just nipped in under 2:30. My slowest half ever but so much to be grateful for :)

I did my first marathon in 1981 (Pony British Marathon, after not getting in to that other one). It was much closer to home and started outside the Crest Hotel in Bolton. It only had about 5000 entries, but the first several miles was downhill heading towards Salford, which meant that when I reached the crest after which the hotel was named there was a sea of runners as far as the eye could see and suddenly a huge pile of grit got in my eyes 😭. Never had that rush of emotion at any race since......

My favourite running moment is a strange one. It happened on a school geography field trip when I was about 15 or 16. We’d trekked out to the Worm’s Head on the Gower Peninsular. When we started heading back something made me decide to run it. I wasn’t a keen runner then, I generally only ran if I was chasing a football, but I ran back however far it was over a narrow uneven trail in walking boots and never felt like stopping. One other boy followed me. We had to wait for a long time for the others.

I never thought I’d run all the way when I started but the further I went the better it got, Forrest Gump style.
