Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

As far as life changing races are concerned: this one was pretty epic: Torq in your sleep 12 hour solo. I won the race and with it the Endurance Series AND a contract with a pro MTB team...
But in stead, I got Lyme disease, unbeknown to me I was bitten by a tick, the cause of a rapid downwards spiral and I never raced again...

Sad that last contribution is from the late Hann. RIP. :-(

I started my own thread on this fetcheveryone.com/forum/my-running-highlight-s-63599/ but Dio highlighted that there already was a similar one.

Prompted by a comment in a blog of someone training for London Marathon for first time (I think) where I said it was "one of my running highlights", which left me thinking, what were the others and ... what are yours?!

:-) London Marathon 2013 - got my PB that I was looking for, had trained hard and got what I wanted, brilliant family support and great Fetchpoint too.
:-) West Highland Way race 2015 - the ultra that I had been building up to for 2 years, got my "B" goal, but was always about more than the time.
:-) Lews Castle parkun, Stornoway, Isle of Lewis 56:10 - first time grandson came round a whole parkrun with me, aged just 5?

Lots more - running with pals, with family, for charity, a few prizes, club runs, running as a team at cross country, mountains with Fetchies, and those early morning runs in the dark or the rain, or sometimes even the sun, when your heart just soars!

So, what are yours? No rules, whatever you want to highlight!!! :-) G

WHW race goblet - Not sure I have any pics of me actually running it! :-)

This is a tough ask as I have so many moments in running that would be considered highlights. But then again, I am a bit of an emotional person, so I tend to get carried away with simple things :)

1. Athens marathon 2011 - My first marathon. Crossing the line in the original modern Olympics stadium was something really special and to do a sub 4 first time out was just the icing on the cake that day. 3:42 and floods of tears. Epic.
2. Christchurch marathon last year, 2024 - only my third marathon. Running this one knowing Oscar the Grouch, pretty much the same age as each other, should have been running one the same day, with the same target was sobering. Having a total technology melt down and having to run the last 12k or so by feel alone and then seeing the time as I came into the home straight, well that was something pretty special, too. 3:12 and more flood of tears as I lay on the ground recovering for a good 10 minutes or so.
3. The support I have from my family is immense. Just to be able to spend 8 to 10 or so hours of every week training, without a single objection to the time it takes from my family. This is because my wife understands what an enormous benefit this has to my mental wellbeing. So, my third highlight is just sitting here at nearly 58 years old, pinching myself in dumbfounded amazement that I have run times for distances I thought I would never have achieved, even in my younger years and still running PB's. Now just holding on for as long as I can before age inevitably pulls me back down to earth. All thanks to my wife and families support and understanding.

How lucky am I? Very!!
