Sometimes our cars get nicknames based on their registration plates. KAV was the Kav, it's successor was the Mov. Mov's replacement doesn't have a name.
I had a car which whose letters were KGJ, which I thought of as Cagey Jay. I also had one which was FKL - I didn't call that one anything at all

(My mégane was called Remi. I realise now that all my cars were boys - including my mother's cast off rover metro which she had been calling Gemima. I renamed it Geoff, and while she'd had nothing but trouble with it, he was utterly reliable for me until the sea air of Aber fatally did for him, and he was replaced by Marvin the corsa)

Lol at FKL. My current car could have two names from make and registration, both the names of female colleagues and it didn’t seem appropriate.

I think all my cars have had names, usually number-plate based, all dad's cars I remember from my childhood had names.

(My dad once had a car with the letters PRB. My mum called it Petal RoseBottom.
Mine was JHS (I think). She called it Jolly Hockey Sticks.)

we had Winkie and Larlie and the Lizard. My current car is Elmo (it's red and its no plate has MUP, I didn't want it called Muppet) The Picasso was called Pablo. The intervening Purgeot was more often called "that heap of shite"

My wife names our cars. Some more inventively than others. The Polo was called Helga, the Suzuki simply Suzy. The Dacia we had last was Hatty Laurel, as the number plate was HTXXLRL.
Currently the new Skoda is without a name. I think the wife is just getting the feel of it. She tells me she likes it nearly as much as she did Suzy. The number plate starts FX, but I wasn't going to have my car called Foxy.

When I took up running and my online running ID I had a Nissan Micra which became the Dinobuggy. When I replaced it I wasn't going to use the same name for my next car, a Ford Focus estate, but the letters on its registration plate, which I didn't choose, were BW GGY so what else could I do?
