Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I think that's only worth doing for extreme grammar pedantry.

Toast related - though probably obvious to most people:

Any time I have toast using regular bread baked in a tin, it is a bit rectangular with a definite top, bottom and sides. I put the bread in the toaster topside up (you would though) and have always been a bit disappointed that the top inch is not as well toasted as the rest.

Yesterday I put the bread in sideways and it fitted perfectly in the toaster and resulted in perfect toast, evenly golden across the whole slice.

Some eureka moments may not be groundbreaking in a global sense, but it was genuinely pleasing to me - my toast preparation is much more efficient.

Now if only I could find a cheap 3 slice toaster, so I could do either 1, 2 or 3 slices of bread at once and not use twice the power necessary when I want just one slice.

I regularly put mine in sideways but sometimes they need a bit of encouragement to go down. Then they can sometimes stick when the toaster attempts to pop up. One day I will get distracted and come back to charcoal toast or a burning kitchen!

I figured out a very quick way of making fruit crumble which could be very fancy for a dinner party.

Stew some fruit - I did cooking apples making apple sauce for a pork roast and had some left over. I put some in ramekins which you can heat up in the microwave just before dishing up.

Topping was cheap muesli (Tesco Stockwell) toasted in a pan with butter (or any spread) and golden syrup or sugar. Once that was golden brown, spoon over the apple sauce and serve.

The topping is a crunchy loose oaty toffee. It was very nice and easy to make vegan of desired.
