Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Agree with Badger on the standing water / immersion heater type issues.

We were also taught root veg go in cold water then boiled where other veg go in to boiling water.

We grew up drinking rainwater that ran off our roof & was stored in a massive concrete tank. One day when we ran out of water, dad gave the tank a good clean before getting the water delivery. There were quite a few dead frogs & at least one dead bird (starling) in there. We survived.

Since Christmas I've been regularly running listening to music or podcasts and wearing ear buds. I though I needed the smallest bud size to fit in my ear, busy still had to wear a hat to keep them in. It turns out a bigger size bud seals itself in my ear and creates suction so they start in. Now I don't have to wear a hat.

If you use a dishwasher, the powder dispenser can fail after a while. The auto-latch opener can fail, or the rubber seal perishes, or both. A workaround is to use a globe-shaped mesh tea-brewer to hold the powder - the type that dangles in a cup on a little chain and hook. The mesh globe opens in half for tea leaves. Simply use washing powder instead. I dangle mine from the handle of the cutlery basket on the lower tray. It works just as well and you get a few more years' life from the dishwasher.

I fixed the kitchen cupboard door by working out how the hinge works. It’s been wonky for years.

You can cut easily and neatly without dragging a blade through flapjack by using a pizza cutting wheel.
