I hope Paul G does go for a new record. Gives the rest of us the best chance of being allowed a support runner as early as possible from Auchtertyre! :-) G

OK kiddies, I know you've done lots of detailed planning (HappyG especially). Granda Minty here to give you some last minute DON'Ts and DOs. Because no matter how intelligent we all are, most of us drop a big clanger in the 24 hours or so before the race starts.

I'm not being high and mighty, in fact I've made many of these mistakes myself! Just thought it may help concentrate the mind...

1. Try to work your early-to-rise, early to sleep pattern into the preceding days. No gold stars for being awake for 20 hours prior to race start. It's important. Get yer pyjamas on and hug that teddy!

2. Chilling and tapering on Friday night does NOT involve eating a hot curry or chilli and copious pints of strong lager. Think about it. Wrong sort of running.

3. On a similar vein, try to organise your "ablutions" to occur just before the race.

4. A last-minute decision to take an anti-histamine tablet to ward off midges WILL SEND YOU TO SLEEP ON THE COURSE (I know). Don't do it. Spray strong (100%) Deet on beforehand and you'll be fine. Midges mainly eat your crew anyhow.

5. If you DON'T EAT AND DRINK early on in the race you won't be able to eat later on when you desperately need to.

6. For goodness sake don't try any new foods on the day. Otherwise you may end up not eating and wilting. Just try them out at home if it's too late to fit it in to your running schedule.

7. Running to Drymen at half marathon pace with the big boys and girls will feel absolutely great at the time. It won't feel quite so good though when you're handing in your timing chip at Glencoe. What pace to Drymen?

8. A 15 minute power sleep has AN AMAZING transformational effect. Just make sure you have a team that you can trust to wake you up (I did, fortunately).

9. Don't worry that it's so slow - running 22 minute miles along Loch Lomond is the RIGHT THING to do.

10. When you get to the 30 MPH sign in Fort William, get your support runner to start taking photos. And line someone up to capture you receiving your goblet. It may be one of your favourite ever photos :-)

Fab M1nty, just FAB.

And I love, 6. For goodness sake don't try any new foods on the day. Otherwise you may end up not eating and wilting. Just try them out at home if it's too late to fit it in to your running schedule.

Hey Granda M1nty! Wonderful advice there. My whw photos are my favourite photos that don't include my children. Very special memories indeed.

11. Keep upright on the Lairig Mor. Do NOT fall over, sit down, or lie down. ;-)

#11 is related to #4 I retrospect. Poor Shanksi, he really did get the bum draw running with me on that stretch. Should've elected to drive the camper van.

HappyG, Donald took my Goblet photo without me asking. Forever grateful to the big yin.

Mrs Shanksi the photo of you and your good man on your wedding day is a bit spectacular too!

You know I wrote my post, told shanksi and we both thought - what about I our wedding photos?! I wouldn't say they are spectacular but obviously special as well. One in my gallery on here if anyone wants a laugh, (please remember it was 19 years ago)

I would also add #12 wear gaitors. When I sat down to take a stone out of my shoe on the Lairig Mor 2012 it was horrendous. No such problems last year with my lovely gaitors.

Gaitors? Do you mean gaiters or gators? ;-)
