I saw a Marshall having an altercation with a guy just before big Ben as he was bare chested & no number. He did have a chip on. As I staggered past (was having a quick power walk!) I think the gist seemed yo be he'd taken his t shirt off & then dropped it. It wasnt the guy in thw pics tjough. He definitely had a chip on his shoes. Not sure how it panned out as I then ran past.

On the plus side good to see how vigilant marshalls were being.

Reading the RW story, it wasn't clear how the 'wronged party' had lost his number. Of course, I'm assuming 4 safety pins were used, simply because that's what most use. Turning to 'recycled' VLM race numbers, there is surely more race organisers could do to differentiate between race years: coloured backgrounds or broad stripes perhaps. |

There organisers do have a 'hit squad' towards the end to stop people without numbers (or forgeries) from finishing. A couple of fast runners from the club I'm in are in it - they usually disqualify 50-100 every year

VLM had made a mistake with my number & I had an M on instead of F. I queried at Expo & was assured it would be ok. I was paranoid I was gojng to be hauled out at the start or enroute thankfully all was well. When I first applied they misregistered me as MV50 but had assured me all resolved but evidently not!

In 2014 a guy just ahead of me got hauled off by a marshal with about 600 metres to go. He said his number had fallen off, when asked what happened to his timing chip said that fell off too - funnily enough thy didn’t believe him!

Much as I dislike so-called 'red top *ahem* journalism, here's an update on the investigation into a VLM 2018 'imposter'. Looking again at the photos of the alleged wronged party, I think they lack a certain 'spontaneity'. thesun.co.uk |
