This will give you an indicator of the level of the chat in our house this morning: QP: do you know what the first thing Trump is going to do? Me: Build a wall QP: no he's going to ban pre-grated cheese in America Me: (stunned silence) QP: because he wants to make America 'grate' again |

I'm hoping that, like Zaphod Beeblebrox's Galactic Presidency, the American president is a merely a figurehead elected to divert attention from those that wield true power, and that all important decisions are made by a man and his cat living in a desolate, ramshackle hut.

Wriggling snake talks a lot of sense. You accept, you move on. Understand why it happened, personally I think race is the nettle people aren't grasping. Before TMW, tony and Spleen start up it isn't in a "they are racists" way. It is both more nuanced and more nebulous. It seems to be people are quite happy living/integrating with other races and people they know on a personal basis, but still maintain this "fear of the other", as a larger more generalised anxiety. People like the bloke next door, but fear the "faceless" masses in the estate down the road. It wasn't some working class breakout: fivethirtyeight.com , it came from the white middle classes, and also partially Hispanic middle classes too. You can say anti-establishment, although if it was so, why wasn't the 2015 election here with the Eton toffs who remain secure in power as always after a few changes of deckchair on the top deck. I think France will probably go Le Pen now too, and then our Brexit vote will see small cheese really. |

So ok we can live with Trump potentially.... feelings about Le Pen though? Here is where I am worried.
