I saw that on the other Ultra thread and just watched it. It is a bit more complicated, not least that the race was cancelled due to covid, but the DJ, Reese, had a diagnosis of diabetes which added in more complications. Finsihed with them having a trip to the Northumberland coast to see what the Cheviots look like... I dare say he will do it once he's got the diabetes under control and the race maybe gets the go ahead. |

I’ve just heard that my first ultra has been postponed once again until September - London Revolution Trails, on of the races by Threshold Sports. A shame but I’m glad they’ve made a nice early decision on it. I’ve got to decide whether to go with the September date or May 2022, I’ve entered the Beachy Head marathon in October so I’m not sure I want the pressure of 2 difficult races a month apart (assuming they go ahead). |

It would have been 15th May, earlier than all the RTTx races I think.

Very much a beginner query, as I've never run an ultra before, but how long should a training plan be for a first ultra? I've completed a couple of marathons before, and my current long run is around 26km. I'm considering a 100km run at the end of May (London2Brighton), is this just too soon and am I risking injury, or is it doable? |

Is it possible? Sure, but it really depends on your current fitness and training level, and to what extent you want to run Vs walk the race. I'd suggest looking at some training plans, to give you an idea the relentless forward progress book has a 100k plan but it's 24 weeks and assumes a starting base level of 35 mile weeks. |

Thanks - that book is now on order with Amazon, and answers my next question, where should I start with my learning. I'm at around 40 miles a week currently, and have 16 weeks rather than 24 available, so it sounds like it might just about be possible, but maybe not optimal training. I think the minimum I want is to complete it without injury and then I can decide if this is something I'd like to do again or never ever let the thought cross my mind ever again. |

Depends if you mean to complete or compete? If you are ok to walk a lot of it, if the terrain isn't completely brutal and if there are generous cut offs then you can walk a lot and anyone who can run a marathon can complete an ultra off limited training. Imho. It will be painful though. If you want to get your best I'd say stepping up from mara to over 50 mole ultra is 6 months. 12 months to it properly. I took 2 years! G |
