TBH GG, at that price you can't go wrong. Its surprising how much it is possible to spend on a wind top

Gromit the top you were thinking of is a Lowe Alpine Adrenaline waterproof smock. I wore it last night. I wasn’t sure I still had it and the tape on the seams have largely come off but it’s actually a really good design plus a good fit. Breathability isn’t great but it’s quite handy for cold / dry running

So my alpkit gilet arrived yesterday. Wore it to do some shopping in town and it was toasty. Ran in it today started raining so had my light showerproof jacket over the top my arms were chilly but body so warm. It’s a good length too keeping my back warm. Folds up small and is lightweight. Will be ideal for the kit bag on my ultras & training. Thanks so much for posting about alpkit kit and more so while it was a bargain! |

Fragile Do Not Bend
Thanks to everyone for their advice on the windproof jackets. I bought an Alpkit Arro on Boxing Day (£5 off in the sale ) It arrived today just in time to test it so I thought I’d write a little review. The run was 6 miles, slowish pace as it was mostly muddy trails, 2 degrees and only a light breeze. I wore a thin long sleeved top underneath. I’m pleased to report it didn’t turn me into a boil-in-the-bag, and I wasn’t cold once I’d got going. It would be interesting to see how it performs when the weather is a little warmer, or windier. The jacket could have done with being a little more breathable - near the end of my run I was aware my arms were feeling a little damp and when I took the jacket off I was surprised to see quite a bit of moisture beaded on the inside of the arms, enough that I thought it best to hang it up with the arms inside out to dry. I never knew my arms sweated that much! However the arms of my running top were only a tiny bit damp, probably because the jacket arms are quite loose. Despite that my arms were still warmer than if I hadn’t worn a jacket with sleeves. I didn’t have the same problem with the body of the jacket. On the whole I’m liking it so far |

Nice review. I was wearing my Arro gilet yesterday and concur that if there is an achilles heel, it's that the fabric is not very breathable. Still a great bit of kit though.

I have ran in my gilet a few times now and love it. I think I’d find it not the most breathable but having my arms out seems to work. I’ve started my training plan now for June’s Race to the Castle. Been plotting routes for the longer distances, need to do same for the mid distance runs. But very much looking forward to it. Now to keep injuries at bay and to practice with fuelling & not leave eating until the big runs. Happy new hear to you all too |
