Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

IIRC Damian’s book We can’t run away from this goes into more detail on this @Sam Jelfs

"Disingenuous" was the word I was searching for, thank you. I don't think Inov8 will give a crap about losing her from their battery of affiliated runners, it's all about the bottom line and screw any other concerns. Well, that's what I got from a couple of disgruntled ex-employees anyway!

Inov8 also do a Renov8 (I'm guessing that's who it's spelt!) project too now. My understanding is very limited, but I think it's just to retread trainers. Whether the idea catches on further, but I don't suppose any shops will see recycling as good for business.

Renov8 sounds like a PR exercise to me. Unless the build quality has improved I think the shoes had a built in obsolescence

Given she seems to want to make her living as an 'influencer' without actually really doing anything and largely relies on companies like Inov8 and the NRS I can't see that statement being her best career move.

Flanker's description of 'irksome' absolutely hits the mark in my book. Just don't get me started though on the 'coach of the year' award that she got at the NRS last year. That was just a complete insult to anyone in running who has bothered to complete any sort of coaching qualification, because as far as I'm aware the only things she's qualified in are complete self-obsession and climbing up Damo's backside!

Yes, I'm not certain exactly what it entails. It's normally the uppers that go first for me anyway (some of my longer running shoes I use excessive tape to keep them functional).

Although the treads actually seem to be lasting fewer miles than they used to do I'm happy to keep older treads for training and newer shoes for racing (if I can afford multiple replacements that is).

Don’t let the Allie Bailie show put you off - Damien’s book is good to read - factually written with sound backing up of facts - lots of info about odds and ends over on The Green Runners website too.

Ethical Consumer magazine also good for finding out about companies - you don’t always have to subscribe - I don’t - and can still access stuff on their site. They did some good ones to do with running companies and also outdoor brands too.

If you pop kit into an inov8 store you get a discount off new kit. There is a section in the store where they sell renovated/2nd hand kit and I think renov8 is a fixing service too so they’ll sort your kit out for you if you need.

Paramo’s been doing it for years. The backlog is so long for fixing paramo kit that they’ll send you free material to fix it yourself if you need to patch something. My paramo’s been going for so bloody long it’s fab. Patched both Dave’s and mine up with free fabric.
