Can understand about the possibility of bouncing - I seem to have managed to find a spot where this isn’t an issue though 😀 at least it hasn’t been so far…. 😀

It'd be interesting to see folks' kit lists for various events... :-)

cackleberry perfect advice for Fellsman! I still have beef with that run - one of my only DNFs as I was wearing EVERYTHING I had and still couldn’t warm up - even hot rice pudding didn’t do the trick. It was dark and rainy and shit. One of the easiest and wisest decisions I’ve made to stop given the conditions and where I was with feeling cold. It’s the only event where I’ve had to make the bordering on hyperthermia call.

I have no intention of doing it again, even though my regular running buddies are doing it again this year. I have zero FOMO.

Oh!!! There's someone who does the North York Moors races who I think is doing it for the 4th (essentially successive) year this year. I briefly had a chat with him before deciding to concentrate last year solely on OCT instead. Maybe it's an event you love or hate.

Thanks for the rest of the advice. I can't rule out getting transport to do some recceing, so I may take a closer look at the maps and find the best places I could manage. My primary though of recceing was the likely nighttime running but I'm probably guessing wildly at how long I expect it to take me.

It does depend on the event, but - from the top of my head - it doesn't really veer far from:

Running tights and/or waterproof trousers
Waterproof jacket
Spare base layer and/or merino wool layer
Buff, gloves, hat
Survival bag and/or blanket
Nav stuff
Phone
Extra food and water/tailwind
Small first aid stuff (mainly for feet) but can also include paracetamol, suncream, ibuprofen gel
Torch if applicable
Often I'll also print out and laminate some time predictions and cut-off times for certain locations mainly agreed and official CPs.

To be honest, I think most of that is mainly obvious and in line with race guidelines. I think the Fellsman for example requires a damn site more extra kit.

I often give my crew a full change of kit too, and in terms of the hypothermia call from phal above, it was an absolutely genius call in one of the Hardmoors 55 races I did. Didn't just save my race, but changed my whole outlook.

Toilet roll a notable omission. Good spot Sam Jelfs

I often carry at least those handipack tissues you can get as it keeps them dry and handy size.

I always add an extra top in addition to the kit list. I sweat buckets so then chill the instant I stop. Nice.

Map n Compass
Whistle
Mug!

paulcook - wonder if we have the same friends?

The mandatory kit for Lakeland is here
lakeland100.com

Most of that lives in my pack and is what I carry hill walking and long LDWA events
More you might want add to that depending on needs and conditions.
