December all went a bit to shit really Run 13:49:55 94.9 - missed monthly target due to being ill Bike 29:13:25 448.8 - missed monthly target due to being ill Karate etc 45:16:12 Total 88:19:32 - disappointing last 2 weeks of the year Races 4 - just missed the podium in the Regional Champs but also 2 poor races between Christmas and New Year Rest days 1 - I was already ill and well it never really got better from here 2023 Run 185:40:53 1,261.3 - poor year as hitting 100 miles seemed to be awkward every month, heart just not in running Bike 425:16:31 6,174.6 - I take this as MTB and CX mean good hours for poor miles Karate etc. 611:48:10 - Its almost 50% of total training Total 1222:45:34 - target in Jan was 1000hrs including cross training with a 50/50 split cardio and karate etc REST days 3 MTB season was poor but I rode well on the gravel and even better on the CX bike Running season ended in Feb if honest and mentally I never really got over it. I did 2 hard parkruns in crap times but with 2 wins. I didnt do a single road race :¬0 Karate has gone well, I graded 3 times and if all to plan 2024 will see me close in on my blackbelt 2024 Would you believe I have not run this year ? Worse I spent most of last week in bed with a chest infection Nationals are this weekend and even riding I will not be at my best :¬( My Jan will not get much better really as the wife is away for a week and that has a huge impact on training as I need to look after the boy. Once more we are all here to support each other Remember, we all have different goals, don't be ashamed of your totals embrace what you do and then look to make the choice to either accept where you are or change it. |

2023. Fuck me it should be a novel, and turned into a 6 part series on Netflix with a heroic, charismatic, aging but still attractive actor playing me....(they always glam things up on TV.....) Let's just say the year began with me single, employed, living in Suffolk and hoping to qualify for the Ironman World Champs in Nice. It ended with me married, handing my notice in at work (full retirement here I come), my house sold and about to move to Cotswolds and an Ironman World Champs medal in the trophy cabinet. Mind you of all the unexpected things that happened over the year, West Ham winning a trophy was probably the biggest surprise.... In between all that I did some training and got rained on a lot. Swim: 115hours/168 miles Bike: 361hours/5206miles Run: 192hours/1065miles Yoga etc: 108hours Strength/gym 69hours Total 845 hours This included 7 weeks off after the World CHamps and accounting for the low (by my standards) overall hours and high 86 rest days. Race highlights were many, but really lining up for the Ironman world champs, under an azure sky was a moment I;d dreamed of for years. It was as epic, daunting, humbling but magnificent as I'd hoped. Can't wait to do it again in Kona this October. 2024, if it stops raining at some point, has a lot to live up to.... The end. |

FMOB Tro, that's EPIC. Congratulations on ALL THE THINGS. I done a Zwift yesterday, spotted an I.Fraggle along the way. Wore thermal bibs and kept the heater on in the freeeeeezing garage. Today I am at work, have rejoined the free small gym here, and have kit. Got a Zwift Pod and plan to use that to make the dreadmill more palatable. Suspect this means there will be more tech faffing than actual workout but it's a start. A pox on those people who don't bring headphones in, or eff off to a quiet corner but instead broadcast their calls to the entire effing office. Morning. |

A pox on them indeed. And currently that includes my mother, who despite expensive hearing aids, has to have have phone on speaker to be able to hear it.
