It is a tougie Nellers, the fourth rep is nasty, as is the final one but you get to have a good lie down after that one 😂 Well done Muttley, those 1k efforts are hard! Good tip on the rolling start, I didn't know that! I tend to use static starts for training but rolling starts for challenges that allow them, do you find with rolling starts you occasionally see a starting split of 4+ minute pace, which is bloomin' annoying! |

Yes, I do sometimes get a reading of 1.4x.x or even better for the initial stroke on a rolling start. Not sure how much difference it makes but it probably does make some. I usually start paddling 10 seconds from the off and start to wind up at 3-4 seconds, so that's probably one decent stroke when the clock starts counting.

Yeah it is nice when you see a 1:40 split to start, not so good when you occasionally see a starting pace of 3:00 - 4:00 minutes though as you have to work hard to get the pace down.

Below is my workout from this morning on the C2 logbook -- 2 x 6000m at UT2. It says the first rep was hr 119 and the second was 116. These can't be the averages because the first rep had consistently lower hr for most of the piece, as you would expect compared against the second 6000m So what do they mean, any ideas? |

Any odd spikes or anything weird from your HRM Muttley? I sometime get rogues readings of 200+ which can affect the average on a short piece but I wouldn't have thought it would affect a 28 minute average too heavily.

Nope, standard hr readings throughout. It was the same for the previous workout, which gave 118 and 112 bpm. Again, these cannot be averages. My UT2 peak is 120 so in the first half of the first 6000m hr is gradually climbing to 115-ish, after which I keep it between there and 120. In the second 6000m hr climbs to that value quicker, as you would expect. So I'm stumped.

How does it show on garmin connect? Does that also show those averages? Might be worth popping over to the heart rate training thread because there’s a scary amount of expertise over there that might be able to help. |

I remember reading a post that said the displayed HR is actually the HR at the final stroke rather than a HR average, and I think the below link backs that up. If you click on the second 6000m interval you'll probably see the HR line drops towards the end, hence the HR at the end was lower than your average? concept2.com Had another go at the CTC 10 x 199m tonight, slowed the pace by a tenth and completed it this time, I just managed a sub 1:40 pace with a 1:39.9 average. |
