It was semi-final day in the senior's singles knockout yesterday. We had an extremely close battle and were level-pegging coming down the 18th. My opponent was on the green for 3; I was just off and tried to lob it at the hole but wimped out and left it 15 feet short. His putt was inches away.

It was the 15 footer to take it to sudden death. I had an experience like I've never had; I stared at the hole looked at the ball and completely emptied my head. I knew before I swung the club that it would go in. I didn't bother looking; I just stared at where the ball had been until I heard it drop into the cup.

I was all ready to take it back down the first hole but my opponent conceded. I think it was a combination of fatigue and he was pissed off because he thought he'd done enough to win the game. A bit of an anticlimax but onto the final I go.

I, on the other hand, failed. Had to give Sophie 12 strokes. She parred the first two holes and I chunked my drive on the third.

Four down by the 4th, scraped it back to lose on the 18th by halving.

Still, a delightful round.

I had a great lesson this morning. I'd been having problems with my approach shots and my short chipping.

The pro identified I was setting up with the ball nearer the toe of my clubs and the strike marks were all on the toe. He moved my setup position by only a centimetre and it made a massive difference!

With chipping, he made me lean more onto my front foot and use a putting action. Much cleaner strikes, and I even holed a few!
Looking forward to trying it all out on the course!

I had nine holes this afternoon with my son for the first time, it was great, we both had a great time, and look forward to going again.

First round after my lesson - absolute crap. Think I'll stick to table tennis!

Good to see lots of golf happening.

Finally played my first round of the year this past Friday. A Texas scramble organised by a work mate at Peterculter near Aberdeen. My backs not been gret in recent times but I got round and (on the back 9 at least) played fairly well.
