Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I imagine we'll see a fair few leopard eating face moments. These will occur among those who vote for Trump and his current coterie. One thing you can rely on is that Trump screws over whoever he works with. Musk, Kennedy et al may not quite what they wanted.

China must be delighted as this accelerates the end of American hegemony and Russia is already beholden to China.
No doubt some will rejoice the end of American hegemony, but would you rather a world with America, China or Russia as the dominant power? No, that is not a false choice as currently one power holds dominance and that doesn't look like changing in the near future.

Also, anyone rejoicing needs to look at Musk's plans for the economy, which thus far Trump is supporting.

When there's 70m of them, I agree; they can't all be stupid. They can have a very different take on what's in their own self interest which doesn't align with ours, or they can have been effectively manipulated to view the world in a certain way.

But deriding people as apologists for neoliberalism and therefore "causing" Trump is no less of an intentional slur (from the authors perspective) that calling Trump or Brexit voters stupid.

Maybe people just believe a rapist over a woman.

The US economy is actually booming, but if your social media tells you everything has gone to shit and it's all the fault of the libs/immigrants/whoever, it's easier to believe than to think critically.

Trump has beaten female opponents twice now. What do we read into that from the perspective of the US electorate? As unpalatable as it will be, the Dems will be very, very cautious about fielding a female presidential candidate in the future I suspect.

And Trump hasn't simply won this with only male votes. Even if his female support is lower, it is there.

We've had enough electoral cycles now where the "worst" that could come out against Trump has been aired. There aren't going to be any hidden scandals now, unless someone is playing a really crafty game that relies on Trump being in office for their "bombshell" to be worth dropping.

We know who he is, how he behaves. He is a rapist, he is a convicted felon, he is a liar, he is a misogynist and he is racist.

To the most ardent Trump supporter, he is "only" someone who has been falsely accused of rape (and never convicted), he has been convicted by a biased court, the other side tells lies, women are inferior and should know their place and a hint of racism at the very least is OK.

That divide was never being crossed. And for the second time around we sat in an echo chamber hearing what we wanted to hear about polls and momentum, and got it very wrong.

All the above is lovely. How sweet that you can look at someone making idiotic choices and not call them idiots.

But I hold that anyone who votes for Trump is an idiot. You only have to listen to him for about a minute to fathom that he is a fool and a liar. And he is a convicted felon and sex abuser. So chuck in sexist and racist and misogynist and a lot of other ‘ists and you still vote for him?

Okay. Calling them idiots is perhaps a little bit unfair.

“Fucking idiots” is probably closer.

Because half the western social media reading world no longer believes anything the establishment or academia tells them and thinks Johnny off Facebook (or Elon from Twitter) is always right.
