Still forging ahead as the most cynical person on this thread. I can only assume the smiley is ironic?

But seriously they will continue to get away with this cavalcade of corruption for as long as people keep shrugging their shoulders: "what can you do?"
Well, act as an advocate for decency and integrity and compassion in politics for one thing. Call out people who support this gang of corrupt shysters for another. Paint an alternative picture of a govt and a country where fairness and justice matter.

I don't think he's cynical. I agree with his most recent post. Most publications still avoid criticising St Brexit, as it remains cherished amongst many, many people (despite the realities).

I can still see Johnson and the Tories riding out the current storm due to the focus on the "parties" rather than the misleading of Parliament. They've got tax cuts planned in in their back pocket ready to drop when an election comes. And the masses will vote for them again.

Don't mistake cynicism for realism ;)

The disaster of Brexit studies have only take been out in a couple of MSM sites.

The pandemic and Ukraine have been an absolute gift for those in denial about the impact of Brexit and the waters are muddied enough that people duped into vote leave them radicalised won't have enough clear (to them) evidence to realise they were taken for fools.

Partygate will damage the Tories even beyond jettisoning Johnson, as will rapegate, pornwatchingate, crashyourcarpissedandlegitgate, etc adnausemgate.

Also, the complete lack of actual 'levelling' up as people see London's new Jubilee line, may open a few eyes to the very obvious lies.

The smiley is just a habit at end of posts JB. I only take it off if giving condolences or something else obviously sad.

I don't think I'm that cynical about UK politics. I'm reflecting what I've seen over the last 40 plus years - except for the 10 years of Tony Blair, Gordon Brown caretaker, it's been universally Conservative success despite Conservative excess!

I will be delighted if UK public will see through these horrendous, self-serving, elitist Conservative politicians. :-) G

Why will people see a lack of levelling up if they won't see the brexit damage? They will believe what they see in the papers, hear on the radio, more jobs than ever before, 40 new hospitals, lots of red tape cut, immigrants deported. None of it has to be real, there will be a scapegoat for any failures (activist lawyers, other opposition, enemies of the people). It's clear that a substantial minority will lap up any and all populist fascist lies they are fed, and that's all it takes.

Housemate tells me that he saw Sadiq Khan yesterday wiffling on about how the Jubilee Line will help the whole country.

Comments from the London bubble like that will keep people voting Conservative, sadly.
