But that's my point; it was a good test to see who, if anyone, could come out with an advantage, just the same as if it was a mountain stage etc. And the "winner" was the best grand tour rider in the peloton. It may be misguided but I hoped this wouldn't be a straight pog Vs Rog year so Rog getting a deficit at this point is that much of a disaster for the race prospects from my perspective. |

You're making it a cobbles Vs mountains thing which is a misrepresentation of what I said. I said the incidents being not down to skill. Cobbles are fine and the hay bale or puncture issue could have happened on another stage and I still wouldn't have liked it. If you're thinking anyone other than Roglic or Vingegaard has a chance of matching Pogacar after watching the last few years then you're not basing things on reality. |

Also if you want a team to risk things, then the most likely team to try that would be a team with two contenders. Roglic might still be able to attack (if he isn't broken), Pogacar doesn't need to follow immediately though. A tag team where one could go and the other could sit on might have been one of the best ways to test Pogacar. Maybe Roglic will be more willing to attack now though. The fact Vingegaard is still in there helps. |

Gobi, we are staying at a campsite in the van, close to the race route. The route itself passes through this square, and off of it there are loads of cafes and bars, some of which are advertising the fact they’re showing the race, so I’m hoping it’ll be a good atmosphere down here. |

I’m with you SPR, sad that Roglic lost so much due to something that wasn’t his fault. I know that’s racing, but I’d prefer it hadn’t happened. The rest of it was very exciting, but gutted for Roglic, I hope his shoulder is ok.

So I stand by my Roglic assertion (won't be on the podium), because in the Dauphine he was losing the wheel in the mountains to Vingegoord, who was trying to help him (yes I know he won it, but it was definite Froome/Wiggins moment). Yes it isn't representative, but in the past ( ie last year) Roglic has prospered on exactly that kind of territory - didn't he launch an attack last year on the Mur that Alaphillippe overhauled, but finished 3rd on the Fosse Aux Loup? Very similar kind of territory. reuters.com Roglic is an excellent rider, and went on to smash people in the Vuelta, but this year he is not in that class. |

Meant on the hill not on the Mur, which of course is a specific hill.

He won't be on the podium because his teammate who is could be second best might be a little better than him. You missed the point where they dropped everyone else, lol. ....and as for Tuesday, once again he was ahead of all bar three, so rule them out as well. You'll likely give Pogacar the excuse of being far back, but Roglic actually had to make up distance to get back up to fourth. In any case, I'm guessing you're feeling more confident about a prediction because of his crash, the lost time and possible injury rather than real form issues. |

Basically you can't credibly say anyone other than Pogacar or Vingegaard is better than Roglic even if the results based on anything that has happened in the last three years.
