Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

An amazing victory. I guess Pakistan are at a pretty low ebb, but they still have a couple of the world's best players. Suspect the next two games will be rather more one-sided though.

Amazing test match. I think it says a lot about the mental approach of England that they didn’t just accept defeat/a draw having conceded well over 500 in the first innings. It reminds me of the story about the famous 438 ODI between Aus and SA. Allegedly at the innings break the SA players were feeling a bit down until Jacques Kallis said “Bowlers we've done a great job and Australia are 15 runs short!”

England did well (well Root and Brooks in particular) to maintain focus and get some many runs in their first innings to give themselves a chance. Pakistan could probably have got more in their first innings but you still wouldn't have expected them to lose at the start of their second innings

I don't suppose it makes Pakistan feel any better that they set a new record there.

Confirmed they're using the same pitch for the second Test. No idea what the difference is going to be, cos I saw video of various equipment this morning to hopefully get it ready for re-use.

Certainly sounds an unprecedented situation.

Watching the women's T20. Spotted this in the NZ player/coach area. Is this a trap? - give the Anti Corruption Unit shotline number at the same time as saying all communication devices are banned 🤣🤣

I have been listening on and off. Attritional old school. Very good. I have missed if consecutive test matches have been played on tbe same pitch or not. I guess not.

I imagine it will be bounceless by day 3 and they'll be playing French cricket.
