I think it says a lot about the mental approach of England that they didn’t just accept defeat/a draw having conceded well over 500 in the first innings. It reminds me of the story about the famous 438 ODI between Aus and SA. Allegedly at the innings break the SA players were feeling a bit down until Jacques Kallis said “Bowlers we've done a great job and Australia are 15 runs short!”

Pakistan could probably have got more in their first innings but you still wouldn't have expected them to lose at the start of their second innings

I have missed if consecutive test matches have been played on tbe same pitch or not. I guess not. I imagine it will be bounceless by day 3 and they'll be playing French cricket.
