I think they're quite generic terms Red Ant and agree with SallyKate. 'Granny' tends to refer to the classic squares you make blankets out of, but can be adapted for a stripe pattern. It's a block of stitches together separated by a chain, on the next row/round you do the block into the chain space rather than the stitch below (i.e. Instead of inserting your hook through the top of the previous stitch, you put it through the 'hole' under the chain)

Just be cautious with crochet as UK and US terms are different. UK has chain, double, half treble and treble, whereas US has chain, single, half double and double! Just to be confusing. A pattern will often state which terms it is using, if you're unsure you just need to check carefully. Learn those stitches and you can make virtually anything. The chain and double are the basic stitches, trebles are similar but need a few extra loops and come out taller.

Trebles are my favourite stitch to work for some reason.

I think you get into a nice rhythm with the 1-2-3. I like the rocking action of crochet. Haven't done any for ages, too focussed on the knitting, I've a few projects to complete before I can return to crochet.

I love trebles too and I think it's the rythmn. They're also quick too. I find my hook defaults to treble if I stop paying attention.

If you like trebles and rhythm, make a ripple blanket from the Attic24 site. I love making them!

The ripple blanket looks beautiful. I'm going to another beginners crochet class at the end of feb so hopefully I'll pick up some more skills B-)

I'm working on this baby blanket now. It's a corner to corner blanket and it's all trebles and chain.
