I've got a fancy for trying my hand at crochet. A friend made a lovely scarf a which I'd love to try. I think it was made up of squares joined together but I can't be certain. Would any of you recommend a particular book/website/youtube/etc as a starting point to learn the basics?

I'm pretty sure I taught myself as a child from a Ladybird book! It had such gems to make as 'a tie for your brother' and 'a shift dress for your sister'
