Saw that report last week RH. There's been one up in Lancs too. But as DT says, won't be going anywhere to see anything for quite a while now |

Hardly an essential item, but I'm glad we stocked up on food for the birds before this new lockdown. I've spotted a pair of blue tits, a great tit and four sparrows in the garden this morning alongside the now usual gang of starlings, pigeons and our blackbird couple. Just need the robin, wren and dunnock to make an appearance for the full set today. |

I've seen a few pairs of pied wagtails recently - I'm currently living by a river but in an urban setting. Opened the window yesterday and one flew off. On matters corvid, need some help with bird ID as not sure if I saw a rook or raven. Landscape is river one side, cemetery with woods t'other side (and road in between). Plenty of tall buildings to perch on. It flew over and was soaring with its wings bent back. Before it came close I thought it was a buzzard, it was that big. Soon realised it was a corvid as it passed close overhead (I'm 6 floors up). Didn't spot pale bill of a rook but to some extent, the bird was in silhouette. Assumed raven as it glided over to the woods. What do people reckon? |

Raven's are far bigger, but without some form of reference that often doesn't help if they're high above. I tend to use tail shape when they're in flight; raven's are more wedge/diamond shaped while the rest of the corvids are more elongated. And then I hope they say something so I can be sure
