Or maybe something a lot cheaper than the Superblasts? Ideas?

Difficult to know, @SPR. I don't normally have sore legs after moderate training anyway, and it's unusual for me to wear supershoes for anything other than a planned hard session or a race. One exception recently was a half marathon in Saucony Endorphin Elites, where I reinjured a previously crocked hamstring 4 miles in and was able to potter to the finish at a pace I'd train rather than race at. I had no exercise induced muscle soreness afterwards apart from the offending hamstring. However, I could probably have done the same session in Nike Pegasus or my old VFF with 1000 miles on them and not been sore. If anyone was pointing and laughing at me running 11mm pace in shoes that retail for £280, they weren't doing it to my face. |

VFF? ZFF. If I could get another pair of those, the Speed 2s would find themselves pushed to the back of the shelf.

I ran the last marathon I did (and my only sub 3), in a pair of 'barefoot' running shoes (Merrell Bare Access), and my Achilles tendons lived to tell the tale. Just saying...

Googling the Bare Access, there's pretty big difference between them and FiveFingers. I trained in the NB Minimus way back but I wouldn't consider training in FiveFingers let alone racing!

Back in the late noughties and married to a POSE coach, I was quite keen on the idea of switching to minimal shoes, but hated running in them.

Minimal shoes changed my life. Immediately ran 2 minutes quicker over 10k in them. All my pbs were set in them, from 5k to marathon over a 4 year period. Once I could no longer source Puma H streets I was screwed, and then Inov-8 ditched their funky gym/running shoes which were the best substitute, and that was it forever. Super shoes haven't me got back close to them. They changed my running economy and style in ways I cannot explain. But I think they had to have particularly small soles, as the larger the surface area, the less effective they were. So the Vivobarefoots were always completely useless for me.

I have barefoot shoes. Not for running in though! Use them for weight training.
