Lol! I mean we can't all try the shoes, but there's enough information out there to say what was said is unlikely to be true or at least not universal. @J2R wonder if you would notice physical signs of you had a new pair. Lack of pop makes me imagine they are a bit compressed or have softened up so not bouncing back to what they were as easily. I noticed this with my old pair of Floatride RunFast Pro Vs a new pair where the new pair looked thicker visually. Maybe not as noticeable with a thicker sole or maybe the plate hides it. |

SPR wrote: The Adidas Takumi Sen 9 are not a tired legs shoe. The firmness that probably works on fresher legs was horrible on today's run. The 10 is apparently more forgiving but I'm not paying £170 to find out, especially as I'm thinking of them as a training shoe not a racing one. I've been finding something similar with the Saucony Speed 2 which is my current plastic-plate training shoe and which, according to the video, is in the same category as the Pro. On a good legs day they're lovely and bouncy, but when the run's a bit of a slog they feel as if the soles are made of plywood. |

I buy a new pair of Vaporflies every six months. I wear them for my A marathon and sometimes a HM or other races. After 100 miles the magic is gone but they still make for excellent training shoes. A few weeks ago I discarded my pink Vaporfly Next % after a total of 600 miles. Still in my rotation: a Vaporfly Next % 2 (400 miles). And a Vaporfly 3% has recently entered my training shoe rotation, after having run 2 marathons, 1 HM, 1 5k, 1 10k in the first half of 2024. Those two super shoes still feel softer than my other training shoes: Hoka Carbon X (first version), Adidas Boston 12, Hoka Challenger 7, Hoka Clifton 9. Owing to my lack of clairvoyant abilities I will refrain from commenting on shoes I have never worn. |

Plywood is a good description of the feeling @Velociraptor.

Interesting about the good legs / bad legs days! Certainly my 10K race a couple of days ago was a bad legs day and my shoe soles did indeed feel like plywood. (I stupidly overdid a speedwork session a couple of days before and hadn't recovered in time).

My thinking is it has to be the plate/ rods producing that feeling as the foams are soft relative to standard foams. It makes the Adidas Adiós 9 more intriguing to me. I'd be ok with a lower stack super foam shoe with no plate for training if that didn't end up too soft but gave you a decent amount of the benefits of the plated shoes.

Has anyone found distinct benefits from these shoes in terms of recovery from training sessions? That's often talked about elsewhere, but I don't recall much about it here (and am reluctant to go through 436 pages!). Clearly the requirements are somewhat different for shoes for training, and out-and-out performance isn't important, but it seems that the Pebax foam can help you avoid trashing your legs so much, as well as help you run faster. I'm wondering whether it might be time to spring for something like the Asic Superblast, but just for this purpose, not for racing.

HOD, I wouldn't be surprised if there was absolutely no issue with my shoes and it's all in my mind! It's just that 400 miles is, actually, quite a lot.
