I think working out which type of shoe feels best for you as per the video makes more sense TBH. I can imagine many runners aren't clearly one or the other.

I need to watch that video! Thanks, SPR Yes, I like the Endorphin Elite a lot, and also like the original VF4%. I've got a pair or possibly more than one pair of Next% which I find quite pleasant to run in but too damn noisy to take out in polite company.

Interesting And provides a possible explanation for why the Endorphin Elite is much quieter underfoot than the VF, and why I can't get used to the sensation of walking in them whereas it didn't take me long to be quite secure walking in the VF.
(I'm a "stride" rather than "cadence" runner. My cadence averages around 180 in shorter races and is typically mid-160s on training runs.)

And I see that the current Endorphin Elite is down to £195.55 on sportshoes.com. No use to me, unfortunately, my size isn't available.

Velociraptor, what you say about cadence is true for me, too. The thing is, though, I'd be very surprised if it wasn't also true of most runners, that their cadence for slow runs is somewhat less than for fast ones.

I'm sure that's the case, J2R, and I think there's more acceptance now of individual variation in optimal cadence and less worship of the metronome and the number 180. But there's probably another thread for that.

I think this proves how confusing the cadence Vs stride thing is. I think cadence runner was supposed to be those that increased speed via cadence more than stride when the concept was first mentioned.
I can see the bouncy Vs rolling thing though. The plate near the ground would definitely help with rolling. Bouncy probably isn't great for walking though as Vrap alludes to. I guess the higher plate config may also feel better/ more comfortable for longer stuff

My Garmin stats would suggest that my cadence goes up around 10% and my stride length more like 15% when I race vs. everyday training.

Interesting Vrap. Sounds fairly balanced to me.
I'll have to review my data. I know cadence changes but not looked at the stride length data in much detail.

I can feel a time wasting impulse to pull out numbers and do simple calculations coming on.
