I just checked a couple of races done recently. I ran a rather half-hearted 10K last night where I eased up after 4km and thereafter was running at about 4:00 per km (after starting out at 3:45), with a cadence of 176. A couple of weeks ago, though, I ran a mile at 3:33 per km, with a cadence of 180. So even from one race to another, my cadence goes up a little if I push the pace. Don't know how significant this is. I'm pretty sure I'll plump for a pair of Asics Metaspeed Sky Paris if I can get to try them out, but I have to say I'd almost forgotten about the Endorphin Elites until they were mentioned here a day or so ago. Given that Dustin Joubert found they measured well (https://www.instagram.com/labratrundown/p/Cp7YXPTNiND?img_index=1), and he gives them a slightly higher number for running economy benefit than the Asics Metaspeed Sky and Sky+, they're definitely something to consider as an alternative. Sadly, I've now allowed myself to believe that my existing Asics Metaspeed Sky shoes have probably lost some of their pop, with nearly 400 miles on the clock. Whether that's true or not (and theoretically it should be), the psychological benefit of belief is an important part of the performance, and once you've lost that it's hard to get it back. |

What makes you think they've lost something? The Adidas Takumi Sen 9 are not a tired legs shoe. The firmness that probably works on fresher legs was horrible on today's run. The 10 is apparently more forgiving but I'm not paying £170 to find out, especially as I'm thinking of them as a training shoe not a racing one. I note the Streakfly 2 (Dev 19062) is back on the development list with an expiry 9 Sep 2024. Assuming it comes out before expiry, that would mean it's a possible HM shoe in Oct 2024. |

Are you seeing anything in pace or stats or just how it feels? I guess that's training mileage rather than racing as well so I guess they'll still be good to train on. I read ASICS are firm as well though from the RunRepeat cushioning guide.

I've ordered the Dragonfly 2, I've been happy running in the original Dragonfly but I think the improvements in V2 will suit me. Cadence Vs stride in the last month in races according to Fetch 800m 2:12.63 194 187cm 1500m 4:24.10 184 186cm 5000m 16:34.2 176 172cm The 800 and 1500 stride length being pretty much the same is interesting. PBs 800m 2:10.78 201 184 (2021 second fastest as didn't wear watch for PB but only 0.23 slower and same year) 1500m 4:24:00 190 181cm (PB 2021) 5000 16:26.63 175 174cm (PB 2019) 3000 9:25.90 182 175cm (PB 2023) If I hadn't noticed the lower MD cadence last year, I might have thought it was related to wearing superspikes this year. I was at 188 for my SB last year though. I've run 5000 at 180 (my second fastest is a 180 cadence effort and my best road relays are around that). The two 5000s here are similar though as the one from this year I was holding on the back of a pack for 4500, while for the PB it was to 3000. |

SPR, pretty well all race miles. I never use the shoes in training, only for races (and race warm-ups). I don't have any metrics proving loss of performance from shoe wear, no, because there are always lots of other possible factors (like, er, heart attack). Just a sense. I doubt many people would expect to get the same performance out of their supershoes after 400 miles of hard running on them, though?

How have you managed 400 race miles?! I've done less than 600 all time when I check my log, lol.

Agree 400 miles may have an effect although the resilience of the cushion could in theory given it a decent lifespan. They should definitely still make a good training shoe.

A lot of people would be binning their ordinary trainers after 400 miles of any sort of running in them.

Half a size up on normal running shoe tends to work for me on racing shoes. Instead of my usual size 11 US, I would go for 11.5 US in Vaporfly.
