I think there could be something to that in theory but what was your condition in those previous marathons? Weren't you under the weather for this one which likely mean it takes more out of you especially with the faster time?

I found my legs worse in Vaporflys than in normal shoes! I never ran a marathon in Alphaflys but found them less stable, but perhaps easier on the legs in 10 mile races.

Until the last few weeks the build up had been pretty good this time so the legs should have been in a good place

I've had perhaps my easiest recovery, off my fastest marathon, in the AF3s. The Alpha uppers seem to agree with my feet better than the Vapors in terms of blisters, but TBF they're both excellent in allowing swift recovery.

I ran in vaporfly and my legs are f*cked! but they were fine after my last one so suspect it's just reflecting the level of effort....

First time racing in Dragonfly spikes today.

I don't think they help in the 800 and in fairness Nike's 800 spike is the Victory (and some may even use the Mayfly). I think firmness helps with the shorter distances and my standard distance spikes may even be faster because of this. 2:11.91 today, 2:12.27 last year in standard spikes and I'm in better shape than last year although 800 is a hard distance to show that (for me anyway). Beats per miles are within 4 beats as well.

I then did the 3000 as a tempo run with 10 pace the target and hoping I would able to go sub 10 rather than needing to drop off the pace in the middle. It was only on the penultimate lap that I felt the effort somewhat and dropped a sec or 2 and I could have fought that if sub 10 wasn't a certainty at that point. Ended up running 9:54.80 with a 73.2 last lap. What's interesting is the beats per mile is within 6 beats of my PB of 9:25.9 last year (in favour of today's run). That basically says that on tired legs I was still as efficient just ran slower (and you'd expect the beats per mile for a faster effort to be lower generally) so that definitely suggests a benefit from the spikes. Guess we will see for sure when I do a longer race fresh.

We shall see tomorrow but my legs feel less trashed as well. They were pretty trashed after the 5000 in March. I've done more MD training on track since so expect conditioning has improved but a double up would still take more of a toll in my standard spikes.

Tired today but legs still don't feel trashed, sure they'd feel fatigued if I ran today but they definitely feel better than I would expect atm.

Something else I noted in my 3000 was there were a lot of On spikes. Will need to see pics later but it's possible there were more in my race than the Dragonfly and will be interesting to see how many were in other races.

Hi folks. I'm just popping my head in to seek some opinions on super shoes.

I've not tried any of the big brand carbon plated shoes, though I do have a pair of Decathlon Kiprun KD900x. I find them to be a bit narrow in the toe box and in all honesty, I can't tell if they actually make me faster of it it's a placebo (though i've not done any back to back tests with them).

I've been thinking about upgrading for my Autumn marathon and two shoes have piqued my interest. The Altra Vanish Carbon 2: i've run in several Altra shoes before and I ran my first sub 4 marathon in the Escalante Racer. I like the extra space in the toe box and found them very comfortable.

Next up is the Asics Metaspeed Sky Paris. I currently run in some basic Asics GT-800 and really like them. They're not anything fancy, but they're light enough and comfortable to wear. Based on reviews online, i'm more likely to get on with the Sky Paris over the Edge Paris. I'm more of a long stride length runner than a high cadence runner.

Both of these shoes are £220, and as such, not far off a pair of Vaporfly Next% 3, or a bit less than the Alphaflys. I'm not really that well versed in any of these so would love to hear your thoughts.

Thanks in advance.

Anyone here using Asic Metaspeed Sky (pref 1st edition) and have any sense of how long they last before losing their 'pop'? I ask because I've just totted up my race miles in them (never use them in training) and find I've done 280 miles, which is a fair amount. Can't really feel any loss of pop as such myself, but I think it would be masked by own personal loss of pop :) .
