Picked up some cheap spikes for the weekend's foray onto the track. Unthinking purchase, other than they had to be less than £30 and fit and be suitable for MD / LD. Got some Puma Evospeed Star 6 and noticed later on that the official site lists them as being suitable for 100m, 10000m, long jump and high jump (and everything in between) I think the newer gen have Pebax in them somewhere, but doubt my cheapo version do; but was really surprised that they haven't wrecked my calves! |

Why would you expect them to wreck your calves. Just had a look at them and they look a standard LD spike.

These were my first track spikes and they look pretty similar: ebay.co.uk I think they were the type just aimed at kids who would do everything in one spike and a distance spike with a little EVA was perfect for that. It's not aggressive so wouldn't expect it to wreck calves for anyone used to spikes which is why they work ok for everything. |

Simply because every other time I've run in spikes I can feel it for days afterwards in my calves because of the absence of a heel. When I'm normally running in shoes with a drop, and I'm a heel striker, running in spikes either on my toes or heel-striking lower tends to hit my calves. Bear in mind that the race was the first time I'd pulled on spikes in about 18 months, and they were brand new out of the box (not advised, I know!). They were also noticeably lower "drop" than the spikes I'd had before so I was really expecting some discomfort by today. |

Ah ok, thought you were expecting an issue with this specific spike. What were you running in before? I run in zero/ low drop TBF so spikes don't generally give me any extra issues although lower legs can be general thing I have to watch from an overload point of view. |

HOD well at 70 miles they should have a decent amount of life left in them, it's less of a risk than buying a new pair and finding out you don't get on with them. Not my favourite shoe but probably someone else loves them! Beat them down to 70 quid first though

I'd have said sit on your wallet, HOD. If someone else, weight and footstrike unknown, has put 70 miles that they're admitting to on a pair of supershoes, I wouldn't be prepared to gamble much more than the cost of postage on them. Having said that, I've been very pleased with the Saucony Endorphin Elite that I bought for half the list price with one marathon on the clock. They're noted for having a flimsy outsole but I expect them to take me through most of my races this year. |
