You may be right SPR

US patents for forming the foam version of Pebax seem to date back to 2012/13

I always thought Reebok Floatride preceded VF (that was where I saw Pebax first mentioned in running shoes) but it looks like they came out around April 2017.

I think 2016 was where Nike were secretly testing VF with the likes of Galen Rupp using them for US marathon trials and winning a medal in Rio, and people were asking questions which Nike were a bit evasive about.

Looks like VF 4% went on general release around same time as Reebok Floatride

ZoomX is Nike's name for their formulation of Pebax foam, no idea if it's exactly the same as other brands use. Reading the patent suggests you could make slightly different versions.

I had to pull out half way round the 10K race which was supposed to be my first proper use of my Saucony Endorphin Pros (asthma and generally feeling crap), so I'm still not sure how much benefit they give me yet, although I do think they leave my legs feeling less beaten up.

I do keep wondering whether I might actually have to adjust my running style slightly to make the most of them, and I am also wondering whether that adjustment might be a good thing in its own right. The Saucony shoes feature what they call SpeedRoll, the rocker design intended to roll you onto your toes more quickly, and I believe the Nike shoes do something similar. But I really don't feel I roll onto my toes when I run, unless I consciously try to do so. I tend to land mid-to-forefoot and lift off again quickly, without any real sensation of rolling, which I imagine might be more of a thing with heel-strikers (which I'm not).

So the question is, should I be rolling, as such? Have others had to adapt their running gait to get the best out of their new supershoes?

I have a similar midfoot running style and have never got on with shoes that are described with a rocker action - they almost seem to brake my stride - so I avoid those if I can now. Rolling through just doesn't work for me.

FD - I first came across them via the Nikes with Reebok being second and the only other manufacturer using it at the time. They too use EVA to stabilise it. I believe it became pure pebax in the Run Fast Pro V2 (there's so little there so should be possible) but the basic Run Fast still stabilises with EVA.

Re: whether it's the plate or the foam, there's a good podcast on the technology here:
podcasts.apple.com
There's a follow up in this one too:
podcasts.apple.com

Spoiler; it's the combination of the various elements which make the shoe(s) more efficient.
