My first two pb's were from Windermere! I'm sure i could have found an easier race for a pb but hey ;)
My current pb is from Toon Moor, 3:40. If i did less messing around with flip and if i didn't have to walk for a bit due to stomach cramps i wouldn't have been far off 3:35.
I'm going back to Toon Moor again this year to try and get that 3:35 cos i know it's very doable then hopefully next year i can find a race for a sub 3:30....... Then i'll give up trying :)

Yes Naomi. My HM PB *is* soft. I beat it by 3 minutes last year in the first 13.1 of the East Hull 20. Problem is, I'm rarely in a position to properly race a HM, and the ones I tend to do - Humber Bridge and Newark are not really ideal conditions, weather-wise, for a proper attack. I could easily have run 1.40 last night for the half - and with a HM PB just over a minute quicker I'd say that when it does all come together, I'll make a decent attempt at it.

I don't think that there are many 3.28 marathonners with a 1.38.XX PB for the half!

I think I have finally got a training plan sorted for Manchester. 10 weeks away, and in that 10 weeks I aim to do about 310 miles. I only managed 360 in 6 an a half months in training for liverpool as I was lazy. Going to be a lot more prepared and actually get some long runs in which I didnt for Liverpool. I feel pretty good about this one.

Hoping to go under for the second time at my first VLM. A winter of injury and a late entry mean it'll be tough though - as I'm nowhere near last autumn's form (1.26 half / 3.16 mara). Happy to just enjoy the experience - but sub 3.30 would really top it all off!

Good luck everyone.

:-)

interesting to read all the different thoughts about pacing.

For an alternative view have a read of Stuart Mills' blog, who advocates a positive split, going out fast and hanging on. Sounds a bit daft until you realise he has a GB vest doing it. It takes a bit of reading and thinking about, but some really interesting thoughts/science in there. This may be a reasonable starting point ultrastu.blogspot.com
