To be fair, you always enjoy a PB. It's failure that will hurt :-(

Good luck everyone racing this weekend. I hope there are more happy people on here on Sunday evening than hurt.

Thanks MP, but my 10k PB is seven years old! I'm still undecided. I think I'll lurk here for now, or at least until after my first HM next year when I will reasses whether I believe this is still possible or not.

Go for it Nelly! My PB before this year was 3:59, I hoped for 3:45 (that was my target before found out preggars in 2009) but in the end went loads better an was aiming 3:35 or maybe 30 (but those didn't really cross my mind till about 5 or 6 weeks out). Quite a bit of life in the last couple of weeks and an aching knee on the day resulted in a run walk from 18 miles to finish in 3:39.

My lead up mileage wasn't that great (if i'd thought 3:15 or 3:30 was possible I would have planned better from before the year started I'm sure) - I did some Parkruns, some hills sprints, progressive runs, 1/2 mile repeats faster than 5km pace an other speed stuff. I just like running fast LOL. Here's the 14 week very summarised summary from start of year to mara -

34, 18, 9, 21,

38, 39, 38,

45 (including 20:06 5k PB),

34 (10 minute 10 mile PB on same course),

39 (17 minute Half PB),

39,

17 (including 5 minute 10k PB)
, 5,

37 (including the mara PB)

3:12 has gone on my VLM predicted time :-o I plan to get regular 30 / 35 mile weeks and hopefully some 40s before proper knuckling down at the turn of the year :)

Hi there all, new territory for me this and a thread I never thought I would see myself watching. A great marathon pb last week though at Abingdon got me 3:31 pretty pleased with that, Sept '09 and it was 4h06 at Nottingham so 35 mins off over the last 2 years in total :-)

Splits at Abingdon 1:44 & 1:47 have given me great confidence that sub 3:30 may just be possible one day :-)

I did a 3:32 at Amsterdam last weekend - PB by 9 minutes, so where I was hoping before, I am now starting to plan

Aiming to go a bit longer in spring, so probably autumn marathon for my next attempt

Lost 14 minutes this year to go from 3:49 to 3:35... perhaps next year can find five-six minutes ;-)

Never thougth I would see myself on this thread, have had 3 Marathon PBS in 5 weeks...
Nottingham 3.49
Leicester 3..45
Abigindon 3.37. (1.48.40 first half 1.48.32 second half)

3.30 is a bit of long way off yet but might just lurk here! I didn't taper for abo, infact Leicester was the week before so with a taper, another season or two or training and shifting the last half stone then maybe I might manage 3.30 although it does still seem to be a bit of a dream!
