Been a big week for me this one. And today's long run was a timely reminder of just how hard a marathon is.

I did OK and felt fine for the vast majority of the 30k run but the last few k's and then recovering after, brought back the memories of just how tough the training and the subsequent race can be.

10 weeks to go. Yikes!

Well done, Mark. Did you see that HoD is also at Newport, a page or two back?

Sundays long run - 31k Zone 2 (mostly)

Longest run in nearly 9 years. Felt good and comfortable for 28k but certainly felt the effort for the last 3. The heat definitely snuck up on me as well. 22-23 degrees by the time I was done. Which is pretty hot here given the strength of the sun.

Concentrated on trying to keep in zone 2 and pretty much managed it apart from the last few k's. Also tried some new gels today in the hope i could reduce the number I need to carry and take on. Not sure they were a success at I feel a bit nauseous post run. I'll see how I am in an hour or so.

Well done Mark! I was a bit surprised to see you talk about your Sunday run when Sunday is just 33 min old over here. Then I remembered that you are down under. I hope you're feeling better now and your stomach is settling down. I'd recommend trying them also when you run at marathon pace - my stomach is more sensitive then.

I have 'only' 27k planned today - the first 30k will be in a few weeks time. 25k two weeks ago went well, let's see how I handle marathon pace. First, I need to get some sleep.

Gels make me feel sick after about 4 so I have moved to voom, a solid fuel similar in texture to Kendall mint cake. My preferred one tastes of lemon and lime. A lot easier on my stomach. Not tried them at race pace yet.
