I also wanted to say thank you to clare1976 for being the admin since I've been on this thread (probably not as long as some of you). I think I had a stint here in 2014-2018 and then left for a few years when my running had taken a hit. Since 2022, I've been back.

Thinking about first marathon this year - done about 1:35 for a half. Is sub 3:30 a realistic aim? |

Yes. I did a 3:32 marathon off a 1:34.30 half, and could have had 3:30 on a still day.

I would think so. I converted a 1:41:30 to a sub 3:30 but that half was run before the 18 weeks block. Within a marathon training block, I would want to run a sub 1:40 half 3-6 weeks out to have a chance at sub 3:30, 1:38 would be fine. This said, fetch has run an analysis of half to marathon conversions with the data of over a thousand users on this website. It revealed that men needed to run a faster half to get the same marathon time as women, provided they both trained for the marathon. So you'd need to be a few minutes faster in the half which you are with a sub 1:35. Where are you in your training? Have you already started a marathon plan or are you right at the beginning. Here's the calculator. If you enter a half time, it will give you two predictions, one for men and one for women. fetcheveryone.com/marathonprediction |

I am 1.35/3.34 but I don't convert well. Re long runs, I tend to do more 20 milers than recommended and hilly at about MP plus 20% |

(Both 20 miles *and* hilly in the same runs, because of where I live)

No plan yet. Just coming back after a three week chest infection. Can get up to half distance within a few weeks. Then look at a plan, main problem is finding the time for the longer runs. You get a plan, you make the time I suppose. |

You’re certainly right in the ballpark Mr J. If 1:35 was on a perfect day, it might still be a stretch but if you and the day could have both ‘given a bit more’ I’d say you’re looking good - assuming that you get a decent raceday. …..and that you ‘train on’, take your long run medicine etc! Best wishes with it💪 |

Thanks all and to Mark J 🇳🇿 for taking over. Good luck with all your up and coming events. I'll try and dip in when I can, and maybe I'll be back to declare a 2025 attempt...
