I believe the 8 is Larkim's current race shoe. I think I've got the 7s. But I really dislike them, the fit over my small toe is poor with a narrow toe box. So for now I'd probably only race in my usual Launch GTS. |

Whatever happened to minimal shoes? I still prefer them and set all my pbs in them (marathon included).

Takumi Sen, Nike Streakfly. Not minimalist racing flats but the closest you can get nowadays.

In any case, my not a proper supershoe comment was aimed at the Adiós 9 not the Takumi Sen 9 (and the 8 before it) which are marketed as 5/10k supershoes. Pre the 8, the Takumi Sen was a traditional flat. Chrisull wrote: Whatever happened to minimal shoes? I still prefer them and set all my pbs in them (marathon included). These may be up your street as they're like the old Takumi Sens. adidas.co.uk I'm pretty sure you won't be happy with the Takumi Sen 9 or above if you want minimal and flexibility. The Adiós 9 would likely be closer to what you want. The soft cushion may compensate for the 20/27 stack. I have the Streakfly, it is very soft, I expect it's akin to a free shoe in that it's cushioned but let's your foot do what it wants. Not tried a free shoe though. |

A cynical politician once said "principles are like farts. You hold them as long as you can but eventually you have to let them go".

Yep. Once I genuinely think I can't go sub 20 at a 5k, I've committed to buying supershoes.

Had a check in with my coach today. He seems happy with my plan and target time for Christchurch in just over 12 weeks. So as along as I stick to the plan and avoid injury, I should be good for another sub 3:15. Mustn't get complacent though. It's a bad habit of mine with most things in my life. Get too bloody cocky and then mess it up. There, said it out loud. that should keep me on track.

over-confidence or complacency is certainly not something I have ever 'suffered' with. Must be nice in some ways to stand on a start line thinking it's in the bag - OK, it can go wrong but that's got to be better than my norm which is 'there's no way I can do this'!! But, avoid injury and I'm sure that another PB will come your way Mark. Even just the benefit of another cycle will see to that. |
