WW - What time out did the Physio expect? I was once told I had a stress fracture and managed to get an MRI via Private Healthcare and it wasn't. I now wish it was in some ways as its still the injury I have to manage which has been for 7 years now!

We haven’t really discussed it Daz. This is already my longest ever layoff so I’m over the hump now and just willing to invest the time in to recovery.

As soon as there’s no pain I’ll be running again. No worries there!

Was back racing this weekend in the local league, really surprised how rapidly I've recovered after Snowdonia. Clearly didn't try hard enough. I know I should be careful, but knowing what my body feels like I'd be pretty confident that there is nothing left over from Snowdonia now, tbh by Wednesday last week I felt I was completely over it. Wonder if that really does say I should be putting more effort into marathons, as I do generally seem to recover quite quickly.

Even got a 76% WAVA for my efforts, which gives me a sniff of an overall 76% fetch standard if the final Borders League race of the season is on a flat course as it will give me a different 3rd distance (5k is already locked in with a 77% so no amount of gut busting at parkrun will help me out there).

75% was the highest fetch standard I'd achieved before, in 2019, so would be nice to shoot for a single point higher. That will keep me focussed for the next 4 weeks, and then I'll be two races into the League season and be able to think about trying to score a decent position in the League overall.

Lots of chat with teammates at the weekend about what's next; beyond trying to breach 2000 miles for the year, I know I've got London in the diary, but really need to commit to letting my better half get the bigger chunk of our household's training time budget for that, so I'll say now I'm not look for anything other than a good day out without any time pressures. I've definitely got sucked into the "longer, longer, longer" thinking and the idea of motivating myself with a HM plan or shorter really doesn't appeal - perhaps I can get past that, or perhaps I'll have to do something stupid like a 100 miler "just because".

WW - your current schedule looks a lot like mine, except all your walking and cycling distances are much further!

Here I'm talking to doctor tomorrow to try and get referral via my workplace private insurance cover to hopefully get some MRI scans. I just need a doctor's signature. Pain is gone, but tried running on Saturday and the pressure from the swelling on the knee made it an unpleasant experience. No reaction after the run, but knee has been tetchy enough in the days since for me not to try repeating it yet.

At last appointment my physio had written out the REST mantra on the board (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation) and struck out the first two. Said don't do either. Seems like any arthritis/swelling the advice is get out and do what you can with discomfort but not actual pain. So that is my current state of affairs. It's a week since I saw him last, but he thought I should be running again within 2. It's weird though, it improves and then it seems to drift backwards for a couple of days, before improving slightly again.

I have always found doctors are happy to 'sign off' if you have private healthcare via employer.

Thanks Daz - sounds positive. Only problem is phone consultation tomorrow, discussing something different but possibly related. But let's see!

Nice one rfr. Abingdon has a tricky finish, last 3 miles, if it's same course as 2009! :-) G
