Managed to escape unharmed by the heatwave of the last week or so; a combination of tactical use of the fan in the garage, a bit of luck with temp changes on Sunday am and just surviving the usual elevated effort / HR levels on Saturday means I'm really looking forward to cooler weather.

Was laughing to myself watching the GNR commentary with Steve Cram trying to say the conditions were ideal for the elites. I know they can handle hot / humid weather OK compared to use mere mortals, but I guess someone who races for 4 minutes has a different take on warmth than those who were running for at least an hour!

Glad to see the back of it anyway.

Is it too early to put 2024 attempts on the sidebar? I fell for the promotional emails and signed up for Manchester. I'm hoping that a more realistic target and practising fuelling for 6 months should help.

Yes allmatthew. But good stuff 👍🏻.

You too lark. Glad to read that you’ve surfed your way through the heatwave well.

Things continue to go to sh*te here tbh. A disastrous run at the Big Half was followed by another bailed run today. It was a bit hot again down here so I’ll give myself one more chance later in the week to prove to myself that it’s worth going to Chicago.

Boston entries opened today btw. What to do, what to do?

Just out of interest, who all has got or had a BQ time, but never wanted to do Boston? If you have any American friends or colleagues, they will always be impressed if you've done Boston. Bit like Brits always ask, have you done London (aka THE Marathon)? :-) G

I've no idea if I've got or have ever had a BQ time, as I've no idea what it is, as it's not something I've ever been interested in. Not surprisingly I've never done, nor interested in doing, London ;-)

WW - I assume Chicago in October will be cooler than what you are getting down south now ? If so, then as you well know it will be a lot easier in cooler and less humid conditions, so don't give up yet based on a few runs in temps you're not accustomed to or will experience on race day.

I've had a BQ time (though nowhere near sub-3.15) on several occasions in the past, but doing Boston has never appealed to me. Far enough away to be expensive and logistically complicated, not far enough away to be exotic and interesting.

I’ve done over 100 marathons, and Boston is my clear favourite of the ones I’ve done :) But I’m a road runner and not interested in trail :) We did 5 nights in NYC, caught the train up to Boston for 5 nights for the marathon, and then flew back to London for 5 nights for the London Marathon the following weekend. But Boston was just brilliant, the city, the marathon, the crowds, the iconic course, everything about it has become a huge highlight of my running ‘career’.

No interest in overseas marathons (and doubly so for anything in the US, no interest at all in visiting there for any reason), but I presume sub 3:10 for a 50yo is a BQ?

I have had a BQ a few times and would like to do it. However like Larkim I have no desire to set foot in America. My days of a BQ are in the past now anyway
