xmiles.co.uk ( owned by fetchie AntClark ) do Maurten, and you can use FOD10 (from shoe-tuber Andy Forest of Dean Runner ) to get 10%. Not sure if anywhere cheaper.

I like maurten. I only use the non caffeinated ones, some people have commented you can taste the caffeine in the others. The texture is weird, like only just set jelly, but it's a very neutral and palatable taste imo.

I don't get on well with the drink mix 320 (always seems to go chunky 🤢 and it's just far too sweet) but the 180 is okay.

I like the solid bars too for a portable marathon breakfast but prefer Styrkr bars over maurten - better taste.

There's often 20% discount codes floating around on Maurten.

If anyone isn't so keen on the texture of gels I've recently discovered Voom Pocket Rocket bars which are the solid equivalent of two gels per bar. The texture is basically Kendal mint cake but with fruity and citrus flavours. There's caffeine and added electrolyte versions too.

I haven't tried them in a fast racing effort yet, only a couple of ultras (100km and 50 miles) but I think I might give them a go at Snowdonia in October (feel free to add me to the sidebar as a 100% not-sub3:15 attempt!).

Only posting here to publicly shame myself for not doing anywhere near enough running whislt on holiday, and now looking to motivate for a final push towards Eryri.

Ran a respectable Heckington 10 two weeks ago, and backed that up with a long run the next day and a session whilst at Center Parcs, but almost totally ignored running whilst down in the most beautiful Croyde in Devon, despite normally being quite good at getting up and running there. Difference I think was that we were camping for the week, which meant I didn't sleep brilliantly and getting a coffee pre-run was a faff so in the end jibbed it all in and only did 2 runs all week.

Still, there's 11 weeks of plan still to go, so not too dissimilar to doing a little pre-plan taper before a 12 week P&D.

Also "won" a free place in the Warrington HM towards the end of September, so that might help with a little motivation and be a good sighter ahead of Eryri.

For those marathons which are getting closer, hope everyone is on track!

Still plenty of time Larkim.

Over the last few days I’ve considered coming on here to remove myself from the list for 3:15, as I really can’t see it happening. I’m doing ok mileage, I’m a reasonable weight, I did a good for me 3K (11:09) on a tarmac track…but overall things aren’t pointing to 3:15 being likely. I’ll keep myself on the list for now but I really think I’m going to be some way off, and around 3:30 being more likely. I may declare my intention in another couple of weeks if I can get a 10K or Half in. Although foot (PF) is kind of behaving, I’ve recently been having to split longer runs into a double day, to keep the foot in check, and that is worrying me, in terms of how it will react on the day. I do need to at least get around Chicago as I’ve other plans off the back of it, and that remains the main goal.

I'm a bit jealous of those of you who got a place in Snowdonia. It's probably my favourite marathon which I ran four times between 2011 and 2016. Have a great day out in the mountains and hopefully not the worst weather Snowdonia can produce at the end of October (like 5 hours of rain and 50 mph gusts on the hill tops from start to finish in 2011). It's amazing in sunshine (2013 I think).

I have a marathon coming up in November, Athens Authentic Marathon on the 12th, but that's definitely not going to be a PB attempt as it's very hilly (380 m of elevation, more than twice the amount in Leipzig, maybe half of Snowdonia). I want to beat my course PB from 2014 with 3:46, maybe a sub 3:40 on a good day. P&D 12 weeks plan is starting on the 22nd of August, one more week of base running before I get going.

11:09 is good speed ahead of a decent marathon G, I'd be happy enough with that this far out from a race. Though with it being an overseas trip, I could see strong logic in setting a softer goal so you end up well satisfied at the end when you do in fact run faster :-)

I suspect work is going to get in the way *a lot* in the next few weeks (and other home stuff), but I will try to plug away. The big commitment in the Hanson plans are Tues and Thurs "sessions", with weekends being a little softer, and that is causing me to have to change and tweek my attitudes as I'm finding myself less "up" for the weekend running *because* it is easier.

Could do, I suppose, but then when I do adjust the plan to push out the long runs from 16m to 20m I'll be stuck with a LR mid-week.

TBH I just need to stick to the plan and get the sessions done. It was those midweek sessions that appealed to me actually as they looked eminently "doable" on a school-night, and I hadn't factored in my lack of motivation at the weekends. Just need to get back into the non-school holiday work patterns too and things will get creaking along again.

Thanks. I was really pleased with how I paced the 3k. The splits were 3:44, 3:43, 3:42 and I’d emptied the tank at the end so there wasn’t much left. It was a relay and I was 4th in my team, which in hindsight was great as it meant I had a lot of people on their 3rd legs to pick off, which helped with the motivation and enabled me to produce an honest effort.

For the marathon it’s the foot that is the worry, but I’ll manage it as best I can. I’m hoping I’m doing enough weekly mileage (51, 56, 57, 60, 55, 67 the last 6 weeks) to mean that splitting the long runs isn’t too much of an issue in terms of fitness, but the reason I’m splitting them is because of the foot, which is definitely on the back of mind. If I can hover around 60 for the next few weeks before a 2 week taper I’ll be very happy, but we shall see how it pans out.

Thinking of racing a 5K and 10K, but may not do a Half this time around. I’ll see now I feel closer to the time of that Half race in September.

I’ve been not able to train properly for months so I am happy to at least feel I’m back training and I’m definitely getting fitter, it’s just taking time. I overtook last year’s mileage total in mid-May this year, as the back half of last year (and beginning of this) was terrible, as you can see.
