Just wondering if anyone has tried Altra shoes over the years for a daily trainer (I did do a search but nothing really recent)? I’m looking at it mainly from a viewpoint of managing/helping PF as although they’re cushioned, they’re much more foot shaped and from the blurb let the foot work more naturally. I’m looking at the Altra Torin, but they’re zero drop, which would be very different for me.

Any views?

(I’ve posted this in the PF thread as well so apologies if you see this twice).

Brunski is your man for Altra. I think they were a game changer for him.

Yeah I'm a big Altra fan, I started with them on a recommendation from my doctor, who's also a very decent runner, and had a pair of Paradigm and an early version of the Torin.

My issues were morons neuroma(s) in both feet, worse in the right and I was unable to run for a good 3 of 4 months.

Nowadays I try and do at least 80% of my easy running in the Altras, have a pair of zero drop Nike Free for casual trainers, and the combination seems to have sorted my feet issues that really affected my running for probably 9 months in total.

I really liked the Altra Duo but they seem harder to get hold of and my current everyday altra is the Altra Provision 6 that I'd strongly recommend.

Haha Morton’s neuroma, although morons neuroma also works for the variation I had!

Brunski, thanks for the info there. Do they tend to come up true to size for you? Reason for asking is that I was surprised when I checked the measurements via their site, as it suggested ordering a whole size down.

I've used a few Altra but was running in zero drop before Altra was a thing (or before I knew Altra existed).

I've run in the Altra Kayenta as an everyday shoe previously. It's not made anymore though so I keep them for faster non-track runs now

Have run in the Escalante 1.5 and 2.5. I liked 1.5 better than 2.5 and 2.5 didn't get run in much because...

My current everyday shoe is the Rivera 2 and before that the Rivera 1. That's the most cushioned shoe I've run in at zero drop. This shoe is not as wide a other Altra models but wider than running shoes generally tend to be

Generally for me Altra may be moving towards towards too much cushioning. I'm probably not going to try the Rivera 3 for that reason but others like it.

Another manufacturer to look at is Topo. They have a PEBAX shoe (Cyclone 2) and are wider shoes in general from my reading. That shoe has too much stack for me but might work for you and it also isn't zero drop of that's a concern. I've been looking at their two lower stack models and I notice they have a 30 try them running and return if you don't like guarantee so worth a look if they interest you.

Big_G I’ve always gone true to size (same as I would for a Nike), the only runners I change are Adidas where I normally go a half size up.

If you’re able to get to a running store that stocks them it might be worth trying on a pair though, I have reasonably wide feet so might be a little loose if you have a slim foot spread?
