Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Mancs is flat enough that hill pacing doesn't apply. And there are plenty of people running steadily at any pace you care to mention. My mistake last time was sticking with a group that was going too fast!

I got passed at mile 7 at London by the 3:15 pacer the time I ran 3:15:28!

Suspect the pacer didnt have many with them by the end.

A friend paced me to my first sub 1:30 that was just incredible as it was her marathon pace so she was amazingly comfortable and consistent. I didnt look at my watch until 10 miles as it just felt so good.

London gets confused by having a pace group of each of the starts and they start at different times.

I had to overtake 50 - 100 people running in groups round the sub 3 pacers... TWICE in London. As Bazo says, 2 starts. But totally messed with my head when I couldn't work out why! :-) G

18 miles with 14 at marathon pace this morning. Average pace for the middle section was 7:23 but it was harder than I would have liked at the end and I was glad when the 14 miles ticked over. Mitigating circumstances are I forgot to buy new gels so I only had one gel for the session, and the second half was running into the wind.

The main lesson is that I really need to focus on keeping to pace at the beginning and not creeping to a slightly faster pace.

Having said that, I just looked at the same session last year and I think I may have improved a bit.

Splits from last year:

And today:

That looks like a very nice block there njo. 14 miles at MP is a tough test.

I’ve been nursing a few injuries, which ultimately culminated in PF in my right foot so I’ve not been running, except for infrequently with some short run/walks.

Finally opted for a steroid injection last night so I’m hoping that sorts it. I was dubious as I still have this feeling that it just masks the issue but I’ve been trying everything (stretches, massage, foot/ankle strengthening) and it wasn’t shifting, and in a way this feels like the last resort, and the podiatrist recommended trying it.

Anyway, if it works, I will be starting again more or less from the beginning. My Seville time from February feels a long, long way back, as does that level of fitness. I’ve been Zwifting a bit but it’s not the same.

I don’t think I’m quite back at the Couch to 5K stage in that I could probably jog for an hour or so without too many problems, but the speed and endurance isn’t what it was.

This is the longest lay off I’ve had so if there is any any advice on what to do to come back safely in terms of a plan, I’m all ears.
