Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Very well done and a great blog Fergus. Is that a sidebar entry for Yorkshire marathon in October then? :D

Plan for Sunday is 16 miles with 12 at marathon pace. It is also longest run here in Brisbane. So thinking of doing 4 (freedom) parkruns at marathon pace with a bit of a warm up at each. Any thoughts?

Four separate freedom parkruns? Or four times around one course?

A 16 mile run with 1 easy / 3 MP / 1 easy / 3 MP / 1 easy / 3MP / 1 easy / 3MP would be OK if that fitted with parkrun locations I suppose, but personally I'd rather do the 12 at MP as a single block mainly for my confidence levels!

The point of marathon pace is the cumulative physical and mental stress of a moderate pace. I wouldn't do it as several intervals.

Though to be fair my intervals do often turn into something close to MP. But that's not the intention!

Four separate courses. I'd probably cycle between them. There is another MP run later in the plan with 14 at mara pace so I could use that one as a confidence booster

No reason not to njo, I'm sure racejase and rod the plod of a few years back used to do a similar session. If I remember correctly it was either 3x5k or 4x5k with mile recovery hog between. Tbh I always wanted to try it myself but never have.

I'd worry about my legs with cycling between. Having done a couple of duathlons, running after cycling is a distinctly peculiar experience!

That said, doing odd things because they are a more "fun" way to do some training is definitely something I subscribe to.

I'd be looking at doing the session a bit quicker if I was having breaks/cycling between (possibly somewhere between 10k abd HM pace). I don't think you'll get the same training stimulus if you run them at MP.

Obviously you'll know your training better than me though and it'll still be a decent session, just not the same one.

MP isn't really so much about training stimulus, I found it more about dialing in the pacing.
