Busy thread. Has Lark had anther idea? ;-)

(Predictably it seems) I don't really get the idea of just running a marathon because you have a place. Certainly not if I have to get flights and hotels for it.

WW - seriously? A wasp sting? FFS you delicate flower.

I hadn't realised just how steady your mileage had been over the years Chris. Remarkable - not just no injury (or illness either!), but no significant CBAs, or other mental life-too-much spells. I will put up the most token and futile of resistances to try to hold you off for the rest of 2021.

WW - that's quite funny in a way, am sure its sore though. Are you allergic to wasps?

For comparison I did a hard track session last night and it caused breakthrough bleeding and cramps overnight/this morning and I'll still be going for a run tonight - the things women have to deal with (particularly aimed at Joe for his barb about girly GFAs ;) ).

Chris - amazing consistency as others have said, its hard to value it enough I think, but the cumulative benefit of that kind of training is enormous.

Chester is an easy decision for me as they offer no refunds (though I could sell the place I suppose) and travel etc is from home anyway.

Whilst I am motivated to not lose my £40, it's more for me that I lost £40 through Chester 2019 when in top condition and pulled a calf, lost £40 in Snowdonia due to same injury not healing quickly and "no refunds" policy, missed Manchester 2020 after putting in the best miles ever in early 2020 due to Covid and now I'm just not prepared to plan to sit at home on race day if I'm not injured, but not race ready. 2021 was meant to be a return to racing and I could very easily let the disappointment of being where I am at the moment become quite an overwhelmingly depressing concept as running has, in the last 10 years, become such a fundamental part of who I am and what I aspire to.

I'll always be "long run ready" so long as I'm running, and whilst 26.2 as a long run is OTT for a weekend on my own, so long as I'm back running for a few weeks I can't undo the miles that are already in my legs so hope that treating it as a social (very) long run may actually be quite pleasantly enjoyable, running around with the 4:30 pacer.

What’s more funny is that this is the 2nd time I remember this happening. But yes, mildly allergic to a number of things like this. I never understand it when people talk about the tingle of nettle stings when for me it’s all out agony for days. Honestly though, there is no way that you could run on this, it’s like the skin is going to burst open on each step!!

curly - a good reminder of the stuff that women have to deal with over us men. I think of the challenges often nowadays when I watch the olympics (or similar) and think about the challenge of being ready for a single day once every 4 years. Blokes have it easy.

PtB - I’m sure that there’s significance to the avatar changes but is anything in life important enough to break one of your own pre-published golden rules?!

thanks for posting that like that lark. I think you always take these things seemingly so easily in your stride that it’s easy to forget that we can all get a bit down. I know I can, for sure. I’ve missed a day, hoping to be back tomorrow and it’s already playing on my mind….

I am never long run ready on the other hand.

Back in 2011 I was in great shape and sub three was looking good. Then I had pretty much a seven week taper and barely any running. Tried for sub three and got 3:20.

PtB I know what you mean about the costs. I don’t think I will go but I did find I could get the train for £40.

WW - You have an exceptional memory for my (almost) concrete principles :-)
But having a photo > 15 years old for an avatar grates after a while.

Having caught up on lots of missed posts, I’m relieved that though the world is a strange place some things remain the same. Bazo will toe the line at London, Joe will rock up and run a marathon and there’s still debate over Larks.
