Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Track shouldn't make that much difference, but it would make intervals a little bit faster I suppose.

I mainly follow P&D which does intervals at 3k-5k race pace, but total interval distance is 5-6k, and they suggest tempo at somewhere between 10m - HM race pace with "slower" runners (their term!) aiming for closer to the 10m version.

GPS errors are possible but not so gross as to make paces wildly different if your watch is broadly trustworthy.

GPS readings on the Track are definitely not accurate . you're meant to manually lap on the track. I think its the Coros watch that boasts accurate track GPS readings but i guess even thats a gimmick.

Try doing the same session on a stretch of road and you'll see the difference.

In fairness my watch measures pretty accurately on a track, certainly races of 1500m / 3000m haven't measured worse than about 0.02 of a mile "wrong".

Even if grossly wrong it's not going to do much more than turn a 6:00 measured mile into a 6:10 GPS mile or vice versa. For the purposes of marathon training, not hugely impactful?

Coros track mode isn't a gimmick. In fact Garmin track mode probably exists because of Coros.

If you want to do track intervals, just get your lap splits. It's a measured distance...

Crikey my Garmin can't even measure a straight mile correctly, always comes up as 0.97/0.98.

I think most people have a much worse error on track than 0.02 for 3000m.

0.02 per mile. Just looked back and my track 3000m usually record as 1.88m, some 1.86m, some as long as 1.91m. 3000m is 1.864miles. It's always impressed me how close things match up.

Mine are usually much worse which is why I don't do my sessions at the track any longer. (Well that and it's usually too busy anyway).

I've done a couple of track marathons and they have both measured very close to 27 miles.
