Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Jda, SKR, B Rubble and WW thank you for your replies, I’d have to agree with you that is a lot. I find Saturdays sessions efforts are quite flat as I’m fatigued, today I did 8 miles easy, 18 tomorrow and hope the wind calms down by then.

WW - I’m committed and enthusiastic to not gain a silly amount of weight over these next few months like I did the year I did a 90 minute half. That’s when poo hit the fan and life went a bit downhill in my mind. I need a plan to keep me ticking over.

Is anyone else doing a virtual marathon or similar in the next few months?

Hey, good to see you back Huntsman, where've you been the last couple of years ? Bad injury, or busy with other life stuff, or still running away but just not using Fetch ?

Marchbanks - Maybe it's a description thing, but your tempo pace looks slow but then the distances seem too long on the context of being able to knock out 5x6mins at 6:10 pace - which basically comes out as 5xmile. If you can do 5 miles at that pace then tempo shouldn't be as slow as 7min miles, should it?

Taking on board everyone else's comments about too many sessions, would it be worth thinking about getting tempo pace closer to 6:35-45 ish, but for max 6-8 miles. Or swap the mentality a bit and slow those "tempo" miles down to marathon pace efforts?

larkim, I come away from sessions sometimes confused because the paces I run don’t seem to make sense or correlate with each other so what you rings true.

I had began training using HR, so was trying to stick within a zone for each interval/session.

I think the only way I could get my tempo runs quicker would be to reduce them down to as you say 6-8 miles, I currently run the 10 mile tempo at 85-90% of my max.

18M today @75% of mar HR, 8:42min/mile. I was going to do every other long run easy and the others with some threshold miles in either the midd or end. The last 18M I did (two weeks ago as I was in isolation last weekend) was 12M easy 6M @7 min/mile average.

Appreciate all the advice and tips, despite running for 10+ years, this is the first time I’m openly taking advice and applying it to training. Always been too scared to move away from ‘plans’ in the past.

Could the pace of my intervals be wrong because I run them on a track? I’ve read there can be GOS inaccuracies on roads with tight bends/tracks..
